Food in Jars is a blog about canning, preserving and the art of putting up, written by Marisa McClellan.
This site accepts payments and/or products and earns income from one or more of the below methods at any given time:
1. Affiliate Programs – I currently participate in the Amazon Associates Program. Purchases made through these affiliate links on Food in Jars pay out a small referral fee.
2. Advertising Networks – I am currently a member of two ad networks, Google Adsense and SAY Media. These companies feed ads into specific areas of Food in Jars. I do not actively monitor the ads served, but can request that ads be removed if I get negative feedback about them. I make money on these networks on either a per impression or per click basis.
3. Sponsorships and Private Ads – Occasionally, I will accept sponsors on Food in Jars. Any time this occurs on this site, it is prominently labeled as such. I also, on occasion, offer certain brands the opportunity to have small ads along the right side of my site. These are always posted under an advertising or sponsorship banner.
4. Products – I frequently receive books for free from publishers for potential review. I also occasionally accept products, kitchen utensils and small appliances for review on this site. If I am compensated in any form, or given anything for free, I also disclose that within the relevant post.
Whenever I write about a book or product on this site, know that the opinions expressed are always mine. My positive opinion cannot be bought.

Hi, Marisa,
Do you ever do any on-line classes? I cannot find anyone in my area interested in teaching me.
Thanks!
Laurie DeSantis
It’s on my list of things I want to do, but I haven’t managed to make it happen yet.
Hi,
I was almost 2 seconds away from pre-ordering your book when I went to “Pin” your Lemon Rosemary Syrup recipe to use this weekend. Why do you block people from Pining most of your photos on Pinterest? I too make my living from an online business and Pinterest has been an amazing resource for me to get my product out to people who would otherwise never find it. Unless you have a licensing deal with your publisher that prohibits you from sharing your photos on Pinterest I would re-think that strategy.
Sincerely,
Amanda
How do I claim my trivet prize #443?
I am trying to simplify my life and would like to UNsubscribe to your blog. Please remove shenna@bmealey.com. When I try to use the unsubscribe button, I get an error message.
thank you!
Hi Marisa!
I’m a huge fan of this site, and of your writing! Your vanilla pear jam has become my go-to holiday gift! I feel moved to say, however, that I’ve been bothered recently by anti-Elizabeth Warren ads that appear to me on your site. I know you don’t live in Massachusetts, and that you don’t choose the ads that do appear, but I read above that you can remove problematic ads, so I thought I’d write you about why I find these ads problematic, even at the risk of bringing politics into an otherwise blissfully apolitical sphere.
Elizabeth Warren is a Harvard law professor who is running for Senate here in Mass., and her opponent, Scott Brown, discovered that she claimed some Native American heritage many years ago, based on what her family told her. Brown has tried to make this a huge issue of her trying to game the system by pretending to be what she “obviously” isn’t – a racial minority. I don’t really know if she is or if she isn’t of Native American descent, but every time I see these ads here I want to throw my computer out the window. The idea that someone with one skin color could not possibly be of mixed heritage is such a backwards, elementary school idea that it just drives me crazy. I’d like to ask you to request the removal of these ads (and maybe all political ads) from the site. I think canning should maybe be a beautiful place where Democrats and Republicans can dwell together in peace – what do you say?
Thanks for your attention, and for many wonderful hours spent in front of a steaming pot of fruit,
Danielle
Danielle, you are not the first person to contact me about those Scott Brown ads (which I can’t see because I’m based in Pennsylvania). I’ve emailed my ad provider about them and asked that they stop running political content on my site. I am a huge Elizabeth Warren fan and hate there’s content opposing her appearing on my site.
Yay! Thank you!
Marissa, Canology is a new website dedicated to canning and kitchen products. We would love to pursue opportunities to work with you. Let me know if you have any ideas or thoughts in that regard. Thanks.
Hi Marissa! I live in neighboring Delaware and write a blog about our local food traditions. Love your new book! I plugged it in my most recent post about making red pepper jam. Hope you like the post and please check out the site — cathy
I want to make chicken and andouille gumbo. We had some in New Orleans and I want to add it to my list of recipes completed.
Hi Marissa,
A friend recently sent me your link to the bee wraps, very cool. I will try them. I love all you are doing here, what an inspiration!
I also wanted to turn you on to my reusable produce bags which are made from either organic cotton or a tight weave of 100% cotton cheesecloth. I would love to send you some for possible review, as they work great for storing vegtables, shopping (instead of more plastic bags) or straining almost anything. I love not having to tear off more plastic bags just to get my fruit and produce to the check-stand and these bags are great at keeping veggies fresh. Simply wet the bag and store in the crisper drawer. Let me know if you’re interested in trying them and I’ll send you a set.
Best,
Laurie

Marisa – I would like to use your Garlic Dill Pickle recipe and one of the photos in it in the Marshall County (Alabam) Master Gardner’s newsletter. The recipe and picture are on the food in jars website, URL http://www.foodinjars.com/2009/08/garlic-dill-pickles/comment-page-3/#comment-166483
The photo is the top photo.
The MCMG Newsletter, The Marshall County Weeders, is a non-profit publication in the public domain. While I am assuming that this falls within the public domain use, I would like your permission to use the recipe and photo.
Thank you
Bob
