Regular Mouth Cuppow Review + Giveaway

Back in the early days of my canning jar obsession, there really weren’t fun accessories for mason jars. We had the regular old two-piece lids, the commercial one-piece lids and those white plastic lids designed for dry goods storage. That was it. There weren’t any reCAPs, leather sleeves and if you had a jar cozy, chances were good that it had been a sock in a previous life.

Things have changed rapidly in the last four+ years. Of all the new doo-dads now available for jars, my favorite is the Cuppow. I wrote about the original wide mouth version when it was released back in January and even then had a feeling that I was going to be a rabid fan of this sturdy plastic disk. And I was right. It has rapidly become a favorite in my travel mug world.

Cuppows

About a week ago, I got an email from the creators of the Cuppow. They wanted to let me know that they’d decided to release another lid, this one designed to fit regular mouth jars. What’s more, the new lid was going to feature something they’re calling “Straw-Tek.” That means they’ve designed the sippy hole in such a way that you can also insert a drinking straw into it without entirely crushing the straw.

In addition to really liking the fact that I can fit a straw into this lid, I’m also pleased with its performance as a drinking lid. They’ve made the opposite vent hole slightly bigger on this lid than on my original wide mouth version, and so it doesn’t have that slight whistle that the first one had. Like the original, it’s also easy to clean, entirely free of BPA and doesn’t have any funky, plastic-y scent.

It will come as no surprise to you that I was giddy when my two-pack of regular mouth lids arrived. I popped one open, gave it a rinse and poured myself a jar of iced tea. It was love at first sip.

Because Cuppow creators Joshua and Aaron know that my readers are just as crazy for all things jar as I am, they’ve given me five sets of Cuppows to give away. As in, each winner gets a regular mouth and a wide mouth Cuppow. Pretty nice of them, don’t you think?

If you want a chance to win, here’s what you do.

  1. Leave a comment on this post, telling me about your favorite hot weather beverage.
  2. Comments will close at 11:59 pm east coast time on Wednesday, July 11. Winner will be chosen at random (using random.org) and will be posted to the blog on Thursday, July 12, 2012.
  3. Giveaway is open to US and Canadian residents.
  4. One comment per person, please. Entries must be left on the blog, I cannot accept submissions via email.
Disclosure: Cuppow gave me two review units and are also providing the sets for this giveaway. However, my opinions remain, as always, entirely my own.

I love a jar of iced coffee on a hot day. I use the Toddy cold brew maker with toffee nut coffee and have the cold concentrate ready to go. It’s a great pick me up.

I’m so glad that to hear that the vent hole a bit bigger. I love my wide mouth cuppow but the whistle drove me crazy, until I made it larger. Glad they fixed that on this one.

once upon a time my local coffee shop used to make an iced peanut butter mocha that was the absolute apex of my coffee-drinking life experience. not even a milkshake could touch it, and that mocha was probably responsible for half the pounds i put on during my first pregnancy. alas, they stopped carrying it right around the time my daughter was born–said the cleanup was too much of a hassle. someday i’ll spring for a vitamin just so i can make them at home.

As a kid, we used to drink Ribena, which is concentrated black currant juice. We’d dilute it with water and add some lemon and honey. As I grew older, we’d dilute it with club soda for a sparkling drink! This year I have my own black currant bush and I want to try and make my own concentrated juice and bottle it up!

I’ve been curious about these lids for a while now — would love to win a set!

My favorite hot-weather drink these days is something my boyfriend christened the Refresh-o-matic: about a third unsweetened grapefruit juice, the rest of the glass filled with seltzer.

We call it “grandma” tea, it’s a delicious mint type herbal tea (i think it might be balsam). Grandma always had some of this tea drying on newspaper in a sunny room. My plant came from a clipping that I got from my mom, who got a clipping from her sister, who got a clipping from their mother. On hot days, I like it brewed strong and icy cold.

  31. 781
    Susan says:

If we’re talking alcoholic beverages, then I have to say my favorite is a ginger-lime-vodka shaken cocktail. Non-alcoholic? Then it’s gotta be a tall jar of cold-brewed iced coffee.

    Jennelle says:

My favorite hot weather beverage is an ICE COLD BEER :-) Bud Light will do! If I had to pick something non-alcoholic, I’d go with plain ol’ ice water.

My favourite beverage to beat the heat is watermelon juice with mint.
Here’s the five-minute recipe: Peel and seed enough watermelon to fill a blender, puree the heck out of it, add some chopped mint to taste, and enjoy! Super simple and oh-so-summery. You can even change up the taste by altering the choice of mint: chocolate mint, pineapple mint, ginger mint, or any other of the array of varieties now available at the greenhouse.
I’ve prepared this for wedding and baby showers, presented in one of those large clear-glass servers with a spout at the bottom. It’s very pretty-in-pink, and if you leave it to sit for a while, the pulp floats to the top so you can pour off the juice by itself. Depending on who’s at the shower, I’ve been known to add a little clear rum and a fancy paper umbrella, on occasion.

I’ve been making agua frescas, a cucumber lime drink and a hibiscus ginger one. I’d love to have a small mouth Cuppow to go with the wide mouth ones I already own. The straw friendly opening is genius.

I almost always have sun tea of some kind brewing in the back yard. I especially love all the wonderful herbal teas available and they all make great sun tea! I brew the stevia (which I grow myself) in the jar so it is sweet as soon as it is brewed.
