Last fall, when I was in Austin, TX waiting for my sister to go into labor, someone sent me the link to a Kickstarter project that they thought I might be interested in. A woman named Karen Rzepecki had designed a mason jar lid with a spout so that she could easily pour things from canning jars without removing the lid.
I thought this was a brilliant idea and immediately signed up to help fund this idea into reality. I posted a link to the project on my Facebook page to help spread the word and soon enough, it was funded.
After months of waiting, my very own reCAP lids arrived last week. They are just as promised – a mason jar cap with a flip-top pour spout. They are leak proof, easy to pour from and made out of BPA-free plastic.
Because I donated $40 to the campaign, I received 10 reCAPs. Though I’m a huge fan of these lids, that’s more than I need to have kicking around my apartment and so I’m sharing. I’m giving away five of these reCAPs to five lucky folks.
And if you don’t want to take your chances on a giveaway, the reCAPs are now available for sale. They cost $6.99 a piece and shipping is free if you buy three or more. They’re currently only available in the regular mouth size, but I hear that they’re working on a wide mouth version, as well as lids with other utilities. I’ll let you all know if I hear anything more!
- To enter the giveaway, leave a comment on this post and share how you’d use a reCAP.
- Comments will close at 11:59 pm eastern time on Friday, April 27, 2012. Winner will be chosen at random (using random.org) and will be posted to the blog on Saturday, April 28, 2012.
- Giveaway is open to U.S. and Canadian readers.
- One entry/comment per person, please.

I would use these for salad dressings and pouring crepe batter!
I would use them for Homemade salad dressings and sauces.
I’d love to use this for salad dressings or making & pouring fun mixed drinks!
Thanks so much for sharing yours, Marisa!
First thought – salad dressings! Second thought – sugar! Third thought – quinoia!
New thought – Water bottle!!! I don’t have an ice maker so I partially fill my water bottle with water and stick it in the freezer – then just add water and drink… Wouldn’t the Re-Cap be nifty!
How neat! I would use it for home made salad dressing, soups for work lunches (less mess) and fridge pickles to easily drain the juice (to use to make mustard) before dumping the pickles in a bowl. Mostly, in all honestly, I would use it when I make vodka and cranberry juice in my jar and then walk to my friends house to watch HBO shows. No more spilling my drink!
)
I would definitely use this for simple syrup, which i usually make and have on hand for whiskey/bourbon sours! but it would be great for lots of things! with these i think i’d be way more inclined to can some fruit juices this year – like cranberry!
also, i love the mention of using it to pour brine out of pickles – i use dill pickle brine in my caesars, and that would be perfect!
To pour my salsa that I alwasy spill everywhere trying to get it out of the jar!
I would start off using it for salad dressing but I can think of dozens of other options too!
i think that i’d use one for sugar by the coffeemaker. tons of uses though!
thanks
What a great idea! I would use them for salad dressing, for sure. And sooo many other uses. Thanks for sharing!
No more sticky jars, I need these for my ranch dressing! Oh, and I could stick a straw through the hole for my iced coffees on the go…genius.
Oh my, I don’t know what I wouldn’t use it for! Salad dressing would be great, mix it up at home and bring it to work with you!
I would use it on my honey jar! So many uses for sure. Look forward to them getting in the stores
I would use this on the mason jar that I keep my freshly ground coffee in. Much easier then trying to fit my hand down in the jar.
Home made salad dressing!!
oh my…this is awesome
What a fabulous product. I’d use it for homemade salad dressings and small portions of left over buttermilk.
Another slick jar-topper! Maple syrup and honey come to mind first. I do love using mason jars for storage.
Great Idea! I would use them for chicken and vegetable stock.
I had some amazing raspberry syrup at a local restaurant and started thinking how even more wonderful it would be if I made and canned my own. So short answer, I would use it on a jar in the fridge full of homemade raspberry syrup!
Would *definitely* use it on my jars of homemade cranberry liqueur! It’s tricky pouring out of the jars because any drips down the threads make it impossible to get the lid off the next time…
I would use it for chicken and vegetable stock.
I’d use them for my stock, syrup, when drinking an iced coffee….so many uses!
I think for homemade pasta sauce and for beverages and salad dressing
I can think of so many uses! Salad dressing, Drinks on the go, pourable leftovers and so much more!!!
I think I’d use it on a jar of salad dressing, or maybe on my jar of vanilla sugar,
I think that this would be great as a drink for tea, coffee whatever, a sugar jar, a creamer, for salad dressings, for juice, a candyjar, for grits, flour, cornmeal – just about anything that can pour. I love this concept!
What a great idea. I would just use it as a to-go drinking cup.
I would use them for dressings and syrups and so many other things….
Wow, I would use this cap for everything! Probably, it would start out as a cap for carrying water around, I would use it for so many things. Thanks for the entry!
Finally! That is awesome!
Mmm many options for use, but I would start with maple syrup and salad dressing. I would also like to try it with homemade smoothies
I would love to have one and use it for honey and or chutneys.
dressing, i make my own and these jars would be perfect…also i am going to purchase some anyway…but hey if i can get a few more free…why not try!
That’s such a smart idea! I think I’d use mine for transporting tea!
I so love it that the most genius little invention is so simple! I’d certainly use this for salad dressing, but what a cool and inexpensive way to “make” your own water bottle.
I can think of so many things I would use these for. I would use these lids for my homemade strawberry and blueberry syrups. I love making fruit syrups, but serving the syrup is always so difficult, and it would be a wonderful way to store the opened syrup jar in the refrigerator.
I can think of a few uses – salad dressings, peanut sauce, water and other beverages, honey, spagetti sauce, and rice.
Those are great! I’d use them for honey and apple cider.
I would use this for when I make syrups- it is sometimes a pain in the neck to use a spoon to get some out- this would be very handy!
I would use them for drinking a big quart jar full of iced tea and none would run down my chin thanks to the wonderful new cap!
I can think of many things to use it for – Homemade Syrup, Homemade Dressings, Drinks on the go & so many other things!!
I think I would use this to drink from. They look great!
Definitely salsa and pasta sauce. This is an awesome idea!
Waffle and pancake batter!
I would use it on an antique canning jar – to hold bath salts that I just made ; -} A Sharing Time is a Happy Time for all
Perfect for salad dressings. I sometimes transfer the last contents of a large bottle of oil to a smaller glass jar to save space. Theis would solve the problem of pouring from that jar.
I home can my own fruit syrups, and these would make decanting them at the breakfast table much easier.
these look like they would be wonderful…
Would use these for my salsa, draining liquid from my tomatoes and my apple cinnamon syrup!
These would be perfect for smoothies! I use a mason jar right on my blender and this would ‘top’ it off perfectly
