I spent today exploring the Fancy Food Show in New York, checking out all the delicious snacks, cheeses, jams and chocolates that will be hitting stores in the coming months. This left me little time for kitchen tasks or the application of brain to writing tasks. However, I plan on having a few choice goodies to share with you tomorrow, as well as more information about making fruit butters in a slow cooker later in the week.
In the meantime, I thought it’d be fun to do a little giveaway. What I have here is a new kit from the creative folks over at Ball. Called the Home Canning Discovery Kit, this little set makes it easy for the first time canner to create a batch of jam or salsa without buying any new equipment, save what’s in the box. It comes with three pint jars, a recipe booklet and the nifty green basket (for processing and lifting your filled jars) you see above. I think it’s pretty cool, and would make a really good gift for someone who’s been talking about canning but haven’t actually given it a try yet.
If you want a chance to win this kit, leave a comment on this post. The giveaway ends this Friday, July 2nd at 11:59 p.m.

Want!
I am super prone to burns (in fact nursing a third degree candy burn on my left hand right now) and also to slight paranoia about sanitation and have thus avoided attempting any canning thus far. I think this would help (and help my boyfriend not panic when I’m in the kitchen trying something new that involves heat)
What a cool little canner – almost as good as your asparagus steamer.
I would love to win this to give to my daughter who wants to learn to can. It would be great.
Oh my goodness, I love that green little basket! That would be so perfect for small batch preserving
Thanks for giving us a chance to win it!
I just found your blog while searching for canning blogs to find out how to get started… How to get the right equipment the first time… Find out what other items I will need and to find great new comers recipes. Your blog looks like it will be a great help and has been bookmarks already. I would love to win the kit.
Thanks,
Melissa
Peach season is coming up! I have grand visions of canned peaches in my pantry. Maybe some halved with vanilla or peach butter. Nevermind the fact I’ve never made either or have attempted to can a single thing in my life.
I’ve been eyeing that great basket at Walmart. It looks really useful. And thanks for the blueberry butter recipe. I’m looking forward to trying it.
have been canning veggies and apples before, but haven’t tried jam or jelly yet. Blackberries are almost ready thought I give it a try. kit looks like a winner for this.
This could be the boost I need to quit reading about canning and start actually doing it!
That’s the sweetest little thing, I think I ever saw.. I bought a tiny 8qt canner, maybe it would work inside it?
I just canned my first time last week at a friends house and I am addicted! I want to do this at home, and this looks like a great way to start!
New to canning. Actually haven’t started but want to this summer. This kit looks perfect :0) Hope I win!
I would LOVE this! what a great idea! I just started last yr & still learning about it!
I tried canning to make Christmas gifts last year but since then have felt a little overwhelmed by a new job, lots of overtime and overabundance of possibilities. That kit looks great for manageable, small-batch projects that I think could get me back in the canning saddle! The fruit butters you’ve been posting about are inspiring too, as I really want to find fruit preservation techniques that are relatively low in added sugars!
I’d love to try out canning! I’ve had your blueberry butter recipe open in my browser for days now!
I had my first canning experience this year making strawberry jam. I would absolutely love to get the starter kit,I would definately do more canning.
I was just checking out canning stuff on amazon because I really want to start canning this summer. I am getting so many goodies with my CSA, it makes sense to start canning some for future meals.
OOOOH I would love that!
Would love to win. Just started canning
Very nice! This would make an excellent thing to keep around until a friend gets interested in trying it themselves.
I would love to win this one!
This is a very cool little kit. It would be perfect way to get my daughter started in canning.
That looks great! I would love to have it.
Oh, that would be perfect. I keep thinking I should can, but then I don’t have what I need, and I don’t know if I want to make the investment… This little kit would be just the thing. And I love the green basket.
Lovely! I’ve been following this blog for awhile, trying to muster up the energy and courage to get started. Starting small sounds like a great strategy.
This would be great to get started. Thanks for the giveaway!
I’ve actually burned my face lifting (and subsequently dropping) pint jars out of the water – this basket would be put to good, SAFE(!), use in my kitchen!
oh man, that would be awesome.
Cool! That looks handy.
I want it!!
What a cool kit!
Such a cute kit! I think it’s probably perfect for my little kitchen.
I make lots of freezer jam, but I’ve never actually canned anything. I’d love to learn!
that is very very cute. Have you ever worked with lavender? I have a bunch in bloom and would like to actually use some.
I would love to win this!
I really want this jar lifter. I’m looking for these in stores.
So cool! Great for small batches. I can in a tamale steamer, which holds a lot but takes a LOT of water. If I don’t win, will need to buy one!
Now that is cute and I’d love to own it!!
Oooh, I need this. Then maybe I won’t have to borrow my aunt’s giant canning pot and accoutrements every summer.
That kit sounds awesome!
I have sour cherries waiting in my fridge to be canned….with this kit it might not even have to be such a headache!
Canning seems like such a scary undertaking…but one I want to try. A small kit doesn’t sound as overwhelming, good idea!!
Perfect timing! I’m just looking into starting – and this would be perfect! Enough for me to try before I go all crazy with buying stuff and finding out it’s just not my thing.
By the by…love your blog. So happy I stumbled upon it.
Oh Wow – that show sounds amazing. Thanks so much for the chance to win. I am going to attempt canning for the first time this year (I have 18 tomato plants growing this year!!) Even if I don’t win, I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to pick up this kit to help me get started!
yes please! We have about 20 tomato plants, so I think I might have to can this year for the first time!
Looks like a fun little kit!
i too have been eying that little puppy at the wally world. would love to win also thanks for all the great info and recipes!
i’ve been wanting one of those! i traded my high heels in & have “gone country!”
I woud love to win this! Pick me, pick me!
What a great kit!
So interested in canning but honestly on a budget (Americorps stipend) which can’t justify me spending money on things that I might not be good at or need many supplies for! Crossing my fingers!
Want so much to use in classes. Please!
Looks awesome. Would love to try out some blueberry butter in them.
i need one of these for smaller batches…
Oh! I need this!
Just found your blog and love it. Just started getting into canning/preserving after planting my first garden and becoming more dedicated to local eating. That kit would be a great start.
I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now (discovered you through Ashley English’s blog) and I adore reading about everything you can, though I have yet to try it! I would love a starter set!
I just moved to a new house with a dozen raspberry bushes and I’d love to make some jam/jelly for holiday gifts!
This looks lovely
I got 20(+) pounds of Apricots today for $4.95 and I am so excited to can Apricots for the very first time. The discovery kit pictured would be perfect for those small batches of jam when I checking out a new recipe. LOVE your blog <3
What a great little tool! Want, want, WANT one!
What a great idea! I buy flats of strawberries and would love to try making jam with a kit like that.
We just moved onto a farm and I will be canning for the first time this year. Just started following your blog (and put a link on mine!). Please enter me into your giveaway, please! And come on over a see us!
I have never canned before and am a bit fearful of it. But I love tomatoes and every year, try to make batches of tomato sauce for the freezer. Unfortunately, there is not enough room in the freezer for all the sauce I’d like to make. I think it’s time for me to try to overcome my fear and start learning to can.
Hi there! I would love to win this! I’ve been following your blog for a week or so now due to my recent interest in canning. But… I haven’t actually taken the plunge yet and could use a little kit to get me going =)
Love, love, love it! Compact size looks perfect for storage in compact spaces & for preparing small batches!
need this!!! lol a friend or two would love to be gifted this
I’d love to win this and then give it as a gift to a friend of mine who’s been thinking about starting to can!
I would love to use this kit to get started canning! I’d start with tomatoes, because I am soon going to have so many!
quick question – after you open the sealed bottle of jam, does the lid remain in 2 parts?
Just started canning this year. It’s something I watched my mother and grandmother do. This past year I became a stay at home wife/mom after 30 years. I’ve begun to pay much more attention to what is going on our table. It is so much less intimidating than it seems. I’m enjoying filling my cabinets with healthy, delicious foods I canned all by myself.
This is awesome! I want to get my friends into canning, since many have been expressing interest. This kit could help them get started!
Just what I have been looking for! Should I be so blessed, as I further ex;lore my journey into canning!
I would love this for a friend that is restarting her life and moving near more farmland so we can can together!
How weird! I was just looking at the site yesterday, wondering about this kit. I’m a wanna be homesteader who is starting to learn about old crafts late in life, and canning is next on my list to start! This would be wonderful!
Would be great for getting the kids into a bit of canning out of the garden, we made cranberry jelly this year.
I personally don’t need the basket. I would love to win and give it to my friend for her birthday, who is a little afraid to can but would like to start. Thanks for letting us know about the basket. Happy canning:)
I think the green basket would be great for small canning jobs.
I dove right into pressure canning last week. Sure wish I cook have taken this intermediary step first!
I have fallen in love with the idea of canning and would love to use this kit to consummate my relationship.
Would love to win this kit.
I would love to win this as I am a newbie canner myself
The blueberries in our yard are about to come right. This would be perfect.
I love it!!! I’m single and a fledgling urban homesteader. I’ve been reading about canning and following your blog for a few months now. The only thing that’s stopping me from jumping in is purchasing a lot of equipment and the fear of ruining my first batch of canning. I would love to get this starter kit and make the blueberry jam that you posted a few days ago. Did I understand you correctly – that this kit will be available in stores soon? Awesome!
This would be perfect for using with the new book I just got — The Complete Book of Year-Round Small Batch Preserving.
Oooo, that is so sweet! I’d love to have it for the raspberry jam that’s soon enough to come (the bushes look FABULOUS).
I’m new to canning. I recently moved to the country and have a garden full of stuff ready to come up. I need to prepare myself for what to do with all of it!
What a great giveaway! LOVE the basket. Thanks for the opportunity!
My mom and cousin are both big time canners, so it is something I have always wanted to try. But never had. This would be a great way for me to start! Plus that green basket is just so cute!
ohhhh i think that green basket is CUTE! and useful, too. i use a large stockpot for small batches, and lay a washcloth down inside to keep jars from rattling–does the job, but super annoying b/c the cloth floats up and i have to use spoons or tongs or anything else to hold it down while i set the jars on top of it.
how fun!
I would love to win this kit- I’ve been wanting to try making jams with some of the herbs I’m growing!
This would be great to have. My fingers are crossed!
Hello! I have been a lurker on your site for a while now and this is my first post. I have never canned before but this year will be my first!! My friend is helping me and I can not wait to have all those beautiful little jars stocked away for the winter! I love the idea of this giveaway as well. Just want to say your blog is great and I love stopping by and getting great inspiration! Thank you!
I just started reading your blog. I’ve never canned anything before, but I’d love to try it!
So cute! I’d love it too!
I’ve never canned on my own ever! I would love to be able to say, “I made that myself.”
Wow! I just stumbled across this site. I will be adding this treasure to my favorites!!! I look forward to using your recipes. I will be using canned goods for my wedding favors, and I can’t wait to try a few of these yummy recipes!
That’s the perfect size to get my canning on in my tiny rowhouse kitchen.
What a great set up for small batches! Would love this for use at camp.
I would LOVE to win this kit!
What a great way to get started….
What a great idea. You don’t have to pay alot of money upfront to get started.
This looks great for small batches. I would love to have
something like this, instead of my make do set up. It looks
perfect.
I would love to win this. It would make canning with my girls so much less stressful. They like to do it all themselves, and I worry about them burning themselves with my big canner. This would solve that problem.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Crossing my fingers! Thanks for the giveaway!!
I just bought my first set of jars, but have no other supplies – this would give me a jump start! I really want to try making some jams and jellies before the summer is over. Fingers crossed!
Awesome little set!
This would be so helpful! I am new to canning and so far am loving it!
While I enjoy winning things in general, and thus would not turn this down if the Randomizer picks me, what I really want are some of those fancy cheeses and chocolates you mention!
that’s a neat idea. i’ve been meaning to give canning a try for a couple of years but inevitably chicken out and freeze everything instead.
holy moly this would be amazing for small batches! or even for small apt hot summer feels like I am canning on the surface of the sun canning because my canner is huge and steamy….
What a sweet little kit! and a great idea!!!!
Very nifty!
Sounds like me! I’d love to win this kit.
That’s a good size! I looked for that kit when I saw a coupon for it but didn’t find it where I live.
ooooo…this would be perfect for me! I’ve been reading you for a while and just not quite sure when to make the investment in equipment. My mom used to can all sorts of things when I was a kid and she promised to teach me to do it next time she visits. This would be the perfect beginning.
This looks like the perfect solution for me- I haven’t wanted to buy a bunch of bulky equipment because I have a tiny kitchen but I really want to do some canning.
I have three little sisters, each of whom have been talking a lot about wanting to can. They all have very small living spaces, little money, and not much kitchen equipment. This would be wonderful as a gift to one of them (preferably to the one who promised me the most homemade jam
Thanks!
When the time comes, I plan to pick a LOT of peaches! So I’d like to learn to preserve them and have the equipment to start.
Love it!!!!
Talk about your small-batch canning – this kit is a great idea. It would be especially good for people with very small kitchens, who don’t want a massive canning pot taking up space. I’m doing a canning seminar for two good friends who have fears of exploding jars, burning sugar syrups, and large quantities of boiling water – and I think it would be perfect for them.
Would love to win this, perfect for small-batch canning with my daughter.
This would be a great boon to people such as myself who want to do small batches. It also just might get me moving again because I would have a basket to put in the pot. And then I could justify getting a pot. I have moved into a new house after a divorce and lost all my canning supplies in the mean time. I have been collecting jars as they have become available at Goodwill, but haven’t actually canned yet. I no longer have access to inexpensive fruit and my attempt at gardening last season was a bit of a flop. But I am on a crusade to can more instead of freezing. After all, what would happen if we lost power, which we periodically do! Thanks so much for your blog. I read faithfully and collect the recipes. All good intentions!
This is just what I need to actually get in the kitchen and start canning! I have a stack full of recipes for jam and fruit butter, but nothing to lift the jars in and out of hot water!
That looks right up my alley–I don’t have any of the right equipment and a very small kitchen.
That would be awesome! I’m looking to make my first batch soon
Suhhh-weeeeetttt!!! What a great little set. I would love to try this one out!
Love that basket!
Oh, that looks like just what I need, and almost right in time to put up all my tomatoes and cucumbers!
I would LOVE that kit! Maybe I would actually try canning something instead of just ogling this blog.
i’ve been wanting to try canning; this would give me an excuse to stop making excuses!
How fun. I’d love to win this kit. I keep wanting to give canning a try and love reading your posts! This is the perfect starter kit. Would love to win it!
Love it – what a great gift!
I looked for something along these lines just recently. Love your blog (my fingers are crossed
What a cute little kit! That would really push me into actually getting going, not just reading your amazing recipes!
Hi Marisa! I wrote to you over the holidays about a canning session but my boyfriend sort of lost interest. I’d love to win this little kit and hopefully pique the interest again!
i would love to give this as a gift!
Sweet giveaway! Sign me up.
What a cute kit! Great for beginners like me.
Would love to win this one!
This seems great! We only tried canning once and since we didn’t have the right tools it was a huge pain. Pretty good idea Ball!
Also want!
Would love this!
I’d love to win this cool little canning kit! It’s perfect for a small batch of jam or tomatoes.
Ooo…. As someone who grew up in a canning household, who has not yet canned herself, I’d love the kit!
I can’t find this anywhere and wants one!
Pick me! This looks fantastic!
Sounds like the perfect little kit. I’m just getting into canning on my own. I can’t wait!
What a great giveaway. Also, love your blog.
me, me, me.
Would absolutely love this! I have a huge garden that I want to put up for the winter!
I have all the equipment but sometimes don’t want to pull it all out. This would be great for beginners but also for small batches! Even if I don’t win, I bet I’ll still be getting one of these. Thanks for the giveaway.
What a great idea! I would love to try this!
These would be great as a gift or maybe to keep for small batches!
My first year successes (last year) have been intriguing friends. Now that I have them baited, this would be a great way to set the hook.
LOVE the basket. So much nicer than the old metal ones I grew up with my mother using!!
This is my first year canning from my own garden so any help I can get would be great!
Wow! What a great starter kit. I would love to try that. I always think about canning in large batches.
I love this! What a wonderful way to get into canning.
How neat! I could certainly use one of those since I am always fumbling trying to get my jars out of the water baths!!
Ohhhh! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! I’ve been dying to try canning and have rhubarb from my mother’s garden just waiting to become jam in my freezer!
Interesting. I am going to try out my first canning this week with one of your pickling recipes. I’m excited
what a neat idea!
I belong to a CSA and am hoping to get started canning to preserve some of my yummy fruit and veggies. Tough to find equipment though.
How sweet!!! Would love one of those!!!! Thank you.
Oh Man, this is so neat! I have been wanting to get my canning on this year (Im a first time vegetable gardener, and a first year farmer market regukar, and I really can’t wait to get started, this would be such a great way to get going!
I would love this little kit!
Thanks for the giveaway! This looks great!
I am just getting started and would LOVE to win this kit! I just discovered your site and have learned so much already! Thanks!!
What an awesome little package!
I just started canning when I got my first round of CSA goodies a few weeks ago. I made one batch of your strawberry rhubarb butter So good! I plan to do a lot more canning but need some more supplies wink wink
I’ve just acquired a large quantity of jars but don’t have any canning equipment other than that… this would be great to get started!
Oooh, this looks perfect for me. I might just buy one if I don’t win
I love this! What a great little kit!
I have never canned before and would appreciate having this kit to become dive into the world of canning.
Looks like a fun canning setup. I just canned some cherry blackberry jam. Love your blog!
This looks amazing! I want this! I come from a family of canners and I have moved far away from them and all of their equipment. I would love this to get back started with my canning this year! Thank you for doing these wonderful giveaways!
I can’t wait to see your fruit butter recipes. That baskets looks cool.
I would give that to my girlfriend Ellie. She’s fascinated with what I can and expresses a desire to try, but we never seem to be able to get together long enough for an afternoon of canning fun. I bet she’d make time if I had that for her!
Ooh! I am planning on doing canning by myself for the first time this year and that looks like a very helpful kit! I am also excited to try your fruit butter recipes soon.
Neat! I’ve been itching to start canning but haven’t jumped in yet. This would be perfect!
I am very interested in canning..but havent been able to buy anything to can with as of yet…(hard times) I have to say I love your website and have over come a lot of my canning fears just reading and looking at your photos. Thanks for such a down home place to go to and sharing your knowledge for us new to canning people.
I soooooooooo want this!
Commenting! What a great starter kit! I’m still intimidated by the concept, but already have the canning pot and have been wanting to gather the necessary tools…and your butter recipes are sweetening the crave
Love that little basket! I keep forgetting to buy proper canning tongs, so have been using other sets of long tongs I have, and that’s just a recipe for burns.
yeah, I want this.
What a great product!! Love the blog too!!
would love love love to try this out!!
That is a great little kit!
Wow! that is a nifty little basket!!!
Hey there Marisa -
I finally found your blog/web site — love your posts! Hope all is well.
Mary Ellen from Quirk
I love the basket idea! What a great kit!
Sweet! Thanks for including the link too – it’s on my list!
Just found your blog! Linked over from http://www.phrugalphilly.com/
Not a frist timer but what a cute basket. I’d love it.
I’m actually planning my first canning experience next week! This kit would be great. So far, I want to make blueberry jam and salsa! What a great way to start!
I’d love to have this for my small kitchen. I currently do most of my canning at my dad’s with his equipment.
Thanks for sharing! I would love to have a green basket like that — it’d be a lot easier than lining the bottom of a pot with jar lids and using tongs to lift the jars out individually, which is my current system.
I am such a fan of this site! Thanks!
Wow! Love, love, love the basket! I am so paranoid about the hot water and getting burned or dropping the jars when I take them out! That would help so much!
I’ve just recently “found” your website and fell in love with it. I spent an entire day reading all of your fantastic blogs and recipes. I’m so glad to have a place where I can go to do canning the way I want to. A few years ago I became disabled and my husband and I had to downsize to an apartment. Consequently, my canning supplies were given to our children (Hoping that they would put them to good use and maybe even pass along some of their products to us). Now I find myself itching to “put up” some produce while I can. This would certainly be a welcome help to me, as I no longer have the need for large batches of anything. Good luck to everyone in this contest. Oh, and one more thing—thank you so much for the blueberry butter recipe! This was genius-and so helpful to me! Using your crock pot-why didn’t I think of that! Keep the recipes coming–people like me need inspiration!
This would be fabulous, as I just bought a kit that contained a metal rack that was too big for my big stockpot. I love that green lifter!–it matches the green silicone mitt I bought for my first foray into canning.
I have made jam a few times but would love to try canning more things, especially preserving vegetables
I haven’t canned in years but am eager to get back to it. Looks like that kit would get me off to a good start.
Val is exactly right. I just started making jam this summer and the metal rack is too big. This kit sound just like what I need.
Aaah! I could totally use that green basket, and a recipe book would help tremendously. I hope I win! Thanks!
Oh, I would love that little basket! I haven’t found the right thing yet to keep my cans off the bottom of the pot.
what a great give away! Fingers crossed
Wow…great idea for beginners
This would help me greatly wit those new modern design jars that just don’t like my canning rack!
I’d love to win this! I’ve just started getting into canning!
This “discover kit” hit my eyes
And I ain’t gonna tell you no lies
With this kit in my hands
I could make winnin’ jams
And at our next county fair win first prize
I made my very first jar of jam last night! It wasn’t too bad improvising equipment, but having a kit would be so much easier.
I would love to win this and try my hand at canning!
As someone who has only ventured as far as refrigerater pickles – of all sorts of delicious varieties
– this would be great for moving into the next step.
Love that little canning rack! The one I bought is giant and doesn’t fit my largest stockpot. Had to put a towel on the bottom of the pot to avoid direct contact. Would love to do some more canning (dilly beans? salsa? blueberry jam after I go picking this weekend?)
Very cool!
oh wow! Fantastic giveaway!!!
I’ve made a few jars of small batch fruit “confit” and jams of the no pectin, no processing variety. This little kit might help me make that transition to hot water processing and making a few more jars.
I have some delicious blackberries needing to be canned!
That looks great! I got fresh Jersey blueberries that need some attention. Love the color too:)
What a great idea!
I’m about to try canning for the first time this summer – I would love to win this kit! Thanks for doing this giveaway
This looks like the perfect thing to prevent me from hurting myself once I take the plunge and start canning, I’m a bit accident prone…
That little basket looks perfect for small batch canning! I’d love that…
Thanks, our produce in the central valley is over flowing.
How cute! I don’t can yet, but I love your blog! I definitely would start with that cute kit
This looks like the perfect way to get started canning! If I don’t win one I will be looking to buy one.
I’m having a friend give a canning tutorial at the end of July for a bunch of friends! This would be great help. Thanks for spreading the canning love.
So very cool. Wish they had this at my local super store.
I love the green color!!!
Adorable! And so functional!
Oh man! Sunday I made a list of food related things to learn and lo! canning was on it. This kit looks like the perfect little motivator
Just made some of your strawberry jam with our local Washington strawberries. Also adapted your rhubard vanilla by adding kumquats… mmmmm. So excited for more recipe posts! Thank you for the wonderful inspiration you provide!
I started my first ever vegetable garden this summer and expect there will be much canning. I would LOVE this!
Oh, this would be great – and I know exactly who I would give it to! Hurray!! (Pick me, pick me, pick me!) H-e-l-l-o!
Great gift idea, and am sure it will be widely available very soon. Can’t remember just where I saw it already…
that is exactly what I need because it is just me and my husband and i don’t can for a large family now.
maynekitty [at] live [dot] com
Love the basket!
What a fantastic small canning kit! Perfect for wee batches and/or beginners.
I keep telling my boyfriend i want to start canning, but I haven’t done it yet. This would be perfect and give me the push i need to start!
I want this. I think it is perfect for someone like me who has a tiny kitchen with no actual “canning” type supplies.
So cute! I live in a small apartment and want to do some canning so bad, this looks like it could save me on what little space I have!
I’ve been making a whole lot of freezer jam, and I’m running out of room in the freezer! I could definitely use that to get me over my fear of real canning
I would love to win this! I have only canned Apple Jelly the way my grandfather and great-grandmother did with out a canner. I would love to do more but need help learning how to process the jars.
this looks so great! i like how easy it would be to just preserve a little bit of pickled goods or jam or anything without too much trouble!
Just bought a new big pot…I think now is the time!
I would be one of those people that talks about canning but hasn’t done it. I read all the blogs, save all the recipes, even have the jars, but haven’t taken the leap. This looks like it would be great!
Looks like fun and great for little experiments:)
That little green basket is adorable. Probably way safer than my method of removing processed jars with metal tongs.
ooooohhhhhhh…..a couple of friends have been talking about a home-made cooking camp for our kids- this would be great! I could be the Green Goddess of Goodness (or some such title)!
I’m going to be teaching my friend the basics of water bath canning this summer. This would be perfect for her. Please, pick me!
gasp! want!
Me, please.
i want one
OMG, I was just looking at this online. I’m dying to have this kit!
yahoo! i would love to add that kit to my arsenal.
Oh please please pick me! I’ve been canning for about three years now, and I have no proper equipment. I use a pair of tongs and one of those spider net slotted spoons to get my jars in and out of the water.
Ooh! Me! Please! I wanna learn. This might just be the ticket to jump start me in the kitchen.
oh, that’s genius! I’d love to have that.
Oh, this would be perfect for my tiny flat!
pick me! pick me!
What a nifty little kit! I’d love to have it to try.
love this! I’ve never seen this before!
Yay for fancy food! Yay for easy canning tricks! I’m making the foray into jamming from preserving and freezer jamming very soon. Can’t wait; will definitely be using a few recipes from this awesome site.
I am inspired! I’ve just managed to “return home” after years of corporate work and am thrilled to have started my first garden. Thank you for the chance to enter this give away.
We just made two batches of your blueberry jam this year after they were so popular last year!
I would love to have this!
Oh randomizer! Pick Me!
Oh, that green basket is just what I need!! I’d love to win.
Love your blog. I’m right outside Philly and I love to can, but not in big batches. I would love to have a small batch canner. Thanks for the opportunity.
This is the most precious thing ever. I just moved into a place with a huge garden and would love to try some canning!
Love it!!
love your blog and would love to win this. this is my first time with a “real” home garden and would love to try canning all the tomatoes and vegis! thanks.
I LOVE THAT BASKET! Why have I never seen it anywhere else? I am on a hunt if I don’t win this…
I really love this idea-even just the basket part. I wish they made the basket in a larger size. Every time I buy a metal rack of any sort it gets all rusty. Very good idea on the part of Ball.
Thanks for posting that picture. Everytime I am in the canning section I want to open one of the boxes to see what it actually looks like and how many jars will fit.
This is very cool, looks like a better way to not get burned. Last time I tried canning, i took a chance using a pair of plastic tongs to get the jars out. Maybe this is a better alternative.
P.S. Marisa, I love your blog and we live in the same city!
Gosh… that basket is a GOOD idea. I have burned myself so many times removing my jars from the water.
PS love your blog.
Oh my lordy, would I ever love this! Thanks so much for the giveaway!
Love it!
Wow. Something to help me get over my fear of canning and it comes in green!? I want.
My friend and I are going to work together on canning tomatoes later this summer and she doesn’t have any canning equipment yet so this would be a fantastic gift!
so cute – this would be the perfect set to make some Lee brothers pickled grapes!!
That is so cool! Thanks for the offer!
I jusr saw these advertised-I’d love to win!
Jana
I’d love to have one.
that little canning basket is the cutest thing I’ve seen all day. thanks for the fun giveaway!
What a cool idea! I think that would be great for small batch canning.
Wow, you’re just full of awesome giveaways lately! I’d love to throw my hat into the ring.
That is so perfect for beginners, hope, they sell them outside the us too someday. Since then, I’d love to win one.
Yay Food in Jars! Can’t wait to hear more details re the fancy food show
Wow. I think that looks significantly easier to use than the metal ones I’ve seen.
I love this! What a super way to make just a few jars (like the pickled scapes I’m doing right now).
I think I want it.
That looks great
This kit looks wonderful! I just got a Ball canning book and this is just the kit I need to make some salsas happen! Thanks for sharing!
very cool idea!
I love this!! I’ve been meaning to try canning for a while…
This would be fun to get started with. This site is cool! My wife discovered it the other day through Facebook. We are just going to start canning our garden surplus this year. Thanks for this site.
What a great way to enter into canning your own food without the commitment of buying all sorts of new equipment!
Talking about it (thinking about it, buying books about it, etc.) but not trying it is so exactly me. That looks like a great beginner’s kit.
Your website is so useful & fun! Keep up the great work, and thanks for the giveaways!
We have done pickling, but not canning. I would really love to get into it this year, because we have a huge garden and I hate to see anything go to waste.
Love your site. Thanks for the great giveaway.
Yes, I would LOVE to win this!! Seriously, you have the best contests (they’d be better if I won at least one of them, however
What a wonderful site to discover, and what a great giveaway!
Ooh, I’ve really been wanting to start canning but haven’t managed to get all the necessary equipment yet.
My partner, Jason, has grown over an acre of the most wonderful produce. I ordinarily just cook and serve farm-to-table, I have never canned before! So this summer I am teaching myself how to can, and I am relying heavily on your blog! Tomorrow I am tackling peach, apricot and blackberry jams. I would love to win this wonderful kit…
So cute… Have not canned since dh melted the lid to my pressure cooker. Where can these be purchased? I think they would make great gifts for cool homemakers!
Cute Kit!
oh please oh please help me discover canning!
I would love to get started with something like this! The CSA boxes here are full of things dying to be canned but I haven’t been brave enough to start.
me! me! pick me!
Fun! This is a great gift idea!
oo!! I’d love to win
Haven’t canned anything yet, but I’m told it’s not really all that hard…
Fun! I have an old canning set, but this seems just right for a smaller batch. And so cute with the green jar lifter basket!
I’m in – thanks so much! This is something I’ve been wanting to do for awhile now.
It’s so cute!
This is a great idea! I’d love to win this so my obsession with canning everything in sight can be broadened even more! If not, can you post where to get such a thing?
i just bought a whole mess of sour cherries to try my first canning experiment. this would come in super handy!
I do think that’s a cute green lifter– looks like a great start for a beginning canner!
So cool for canning small batches!!!
I just found your blog this week and I am in heaven!!! I love to can, despite my friends claims that this makes me somewhat crazy? Fascinating? Godesss-like? Yeah, let’s go with that one.
They should make big lifters like that. The metal one in my BWB is a pain sometimes. The fact that it’s neon green makes is 10x better!!!
So cute and simple, I love the idea of not being committed to a large batch! Thank you for the opportunity to try out this new kit.
I love it. And if I win, I promise to share my first batch!
This would be awesome gift for my mom!
I think this is darling, and in the event that I don’t magically win, I’m thinking about purchasing one!
Ohh fun. I want!! btw: the blueberry butter is DELICIOUS!!
This is awesome! My sister-in-law and I have been talking about getting together to do some canning, but never have. Maybe this would give us the little push we need!
OOh! This would be perfect for my first homegrown batch of tomatoes that will hopefully become homemade pasta sauce!
I haven’t canned before either, but saw this kit and was thinking it would be a good way to get me started. Homemade spaghetti is one of the first things I want to try.
I think I might be able to figure out what to do with all those tomatoes ripening on the vine now!
That’s a nifty little set! It would be great for a small space
i know just who i’d give it to!
Thanks for keeping us apprised of new products – this one looks very useful!
My sister and I just picked about a gallon of sour cherries. About to set out on our 2nd canning adventure. This would be awesome!!
I’ve been canning for years–and I’m always ready for something new. Thank you for a wonderful site.
{{canning LOVE}}
This looks great. I’d love to try it. Haven’t seen it in Portland OR. In order to avoid the dreaded big canner I’m using what I think might be a corn cooker, but it works.
Thanks for the chance to win the Discovery Kit…would love to win it!
Love the green basket too. I am going to link this giveaway on my blog too.
Just starting to get into canning – and found your blog. Next on my list? Cherries.
What a great way to can a few jars! Count me in, please and thanks.
Me please!
I have been getting wonderful fruit at the farmers market and would love to learn to can some of it.
This is the most adorable giveaway ever.
My sister and I are totally the type who have been talking about canning for years but both to strapped for money to actually buy everything we need to do what in the end would save us money.
This is so great! I’ve been wanting to can but have been so afraid to purchase one of those humongous pots. This would be perfect!
This kit is great! Just the other day my friend was telling me she’d like to get canning equipment so she can stop borrowing mine. I would gladly gift this to her if I won.
oh my goodness, I would love to win this! I am intimidated by home canning, and would love to learn!
What a great kit! Nice idea from Ball.
I just put up the first pickles of the year this morning. Happy day. This would be so great to give to my gardening neighbor. Love your site.
that would be so great for small batches of things!
So pretty! I have been reading and reading and reading about canning–maybe the nudge I need?
What a great little kit! I have never canned yet, and the kit makes canning seem more accessible.
I love the idea of a basket for removing jars from the pot. Lovely concept!
I love the plastic cradle to lift the jars out. I have an older metal one and the handles fall down in the hot water. Hard to get out. It’s always good to see better designing that makes things easier. I’ll have to give this to my cousin if I win, or if i break down and see this for sale. She’s getting into gardening and will probably graduate to canning afterwards.
Oh my gosh…blueberry butter. Sounds yummy! Just discovered your site. Love it! Keep it up!
I just discovered your site, and it’s so exciting! I have been wanting to learn how to can things for EVER!
http://someonewhobakes.com
I would love this little kit! We have only made freezer jam because we are scared of real waterbath canning!
We would love to try this out.
Ooh, fun!!
I would love to win this canning set. I’ve had my eye on it at Wal Mart but wasn’t sure if it was worth purchasing or not. I think I’m actually going to can things this year. I even got on your site today because I’m looking for tips on what type of food mill to buy.
I grew a garden last year, in part to attempt some canning. All rain, little sun and undernourished soil made my garden a pathetic patch of earth. I am not deterred. More work and more money have been invested in this little patch of earth with hopes of seeing the fruit of my labor. Having this little kit awaiting use would make for a delighful goal – to actually get enough produce to use it! Or, if all else fails, I can at least go to the farmers market and can the fruits of someone elses labors.
I would so love to have that kit! The basket is so cute and would be extremely useful when you just have a small batch to process! Pick me please!!
This would be fantastic!!! Then I wouldn’t have to go out and buy a proper pot and rack
I’m the one whose been talking about canning but hasn’t done it yet! me! that kit would be fantastic, and if I dont win, perhaps I will seek one out. <3
Wow. that’s pretty nifty…but why green- that’s the question I am left with. Who at what meeting decided to make it lime green.
OMG! I was just eyeballing this the other day! I have been redneck canning for a while now being unwilling to part with precious dollars for canning equipment. This would make my day!
I bought 24 lbs. of apricots because someone was going to teach me how to can/make jam – still waiting so I would love to win this to take care of my apricots soonest!
I would love to win this and make use of the tomatoes growing in my garden!
What a great kit! I love the basket idea- I always try tongs and end up dropping jars and burning myself!
I just discovered your blog and will be reading from now on. I am trying to live a sustainable lifestyle and would love to win this so I can try my hand at canning.
Looks awesome! Even if I don’t win, I might go and try to find one
YES! That would be perfect for small batches!
What a perfect way to get started! I would love this.
I would love this, but DANG GIRL!! You are a popular puppy!!!

So I am a guy who didn’t do a whole lot of cooking growing up. Now that I’m married, I’ve slowly been learning. I’m a teacher and plan to spend my extra time this summer learning to can/pickle. This would be an awesome way to get started.
Thanks for the giveaway!
As one of those people who WANTS to start canning, but has neither the tools nor bravery to give it a start, I would love that kit!
This would be a perfect way to get my feet wet with canning.

Love this blog! first time here and I will be back. I have only canned once and I want to do more! I would love to win this little kit! Thanks for posting it!

Beginner canner here; even if I don’t win, I’ll be tracking this down and buying it! Super find!
I have a neighbor that brings me fresh veggies from his Garden and every year I always say I want to can some of it and put it up for later. But i don’t know how to I would like to buy the canning kit so I can get started he brought me Squash last week and cabbage.
Would love to have one!
I just learned how to can and my friends were so happy with their jam gifts at Christmas that they all want to learn too. I use my Mom’s equipment but it’s only on loan. I would be absolutley delighted to win the Ball set. I hope to keep the tradition going and pass on the skill to others!
I would love to win this im new to canning and just found your great website
We picked 8 pounds of berries yesterday…I may have to buy this before the contest even closes!
I recently saw this in the store and thought about buying one for very small batches of things, which is what I can more often than not. My frugality got the better of me, so I would LOVE to win this.
thanks for the giveaway!
I only make small batches and this looks perfect!
Wow, what a great introduction to canning! I’ve never done it on my own before but I have been wanting to!

Oh my gosh! This would be the perfect way to get started with canning.
I bought a canning book today…one step towards actually doing it…:)
I have always wanted to try canning but have yet to dive into the water…this would be great! Thanks for hosting this giveaway!
I’d love this little canning kit! Just in time to jump in and make jam with my plums. Thanks for doing what you do
I just started canning! This would be so helpful.
I’d love to win the canning starter set as I am slowly building up to having the equipment I need to really start canning
Lovely! I have just the friend in mind, as a matter of fact, and have been looking for something exactly like this to get for her!
Oh this would be such a fantastic surprise! I just got my garden all planted, but can already tell that there’s going to be more produce than I can eat and share with the neighbors on a weekly basis. Learning how to can the extra food for the winter may be just the ticket, and my family would be so proud!
So far I’ve only made freezer jams – I’d love to start actually canning though!
I just started canning and this would be a great addition.
Hrm, I think this is GREAT! Yes!
I WANT IT!
this would be a great addition to our jelly making!
Hi!
I’ve been canning for about four years now but have always borrowed or made due without any special tools. Having a canning basket would make life so much easier.
Thanks for a great blog!
I’ve always canned massive amounts of preserves but the older I get, I find I don’t have the time or energy to can all day. I’ve started limiting the amounts I use and this little item would come in handy preserving small batches. I’d love to try it out.
I was interested in this. I hope it comes my way!
I’m interested in canning already, but because *all* of my boyfriend’s aunts can their own berries into jams, sooner or later, I’ll be right there canning with them, whether I want to or not!
Who wouldn’t like a little something now and then. I feel like a winner, don’t prove me wrong.
thanks
can can canning!
I’ve been wanting to try canning, so it would be so cool to have a nifty starter kit!
It looks much more nimble than the big, old metal cooker and metal handled jar remover my mom used to use! I’m going to can beets with my sister this year and try to make pickles just like mom’s–wish us luck!
THe comment below is why I would like to win the starter kit : )
Thanks,
Sandy
“it’s pretty cool, and would make a really good gift for someone who’s been talking about canning but haven’t actually given it a try yet”..
This looks like a really cool starter kit. I’ve been following your blog for a few months now waiting for the perfect project to try…maybe I’ll give pickles a try if I win! Thanks for the give away!
Ooh, that would be wonderful!
That looks like so much fun!
This kit looks awesome! I’ve dipped my toe in with some blackberry and strawberry unprocessed james this summer, but I can’t wait to try “real” preserves!
Just starting to dive into canning, this would be awesome to have!
That looks so much easier than the tongs I adapted for the purpose last time!
♥♥♥♥♥ AWESOME KIT! ♥♥♥♥♥ LOVE IT! ♥♥♥♥♥
I stumbled upon your site through eco salon. I love the blueberry butter recipe! This kit looks great and would really encourage me in my first forays into canning.
Ohh what a great item to give away! Iwould love to win this.
I just found your blog thru a search & so glad I got here just in time! Great blog!
Hugs & Blessings,
Pam
I just moved to the mountains of Idaho – population 100. The closest town is 60 miles away. I REALLY need to start canning.
This looks great! The perfect thing to get me started on canning, inspired by my CSA box and your blog.
OOOO!!! I’ve been eying this for a while… I’m now in love with your blog!
I spied these at our local grocery store, would love to try it out.
Just finished canning a small batch of pickles… would have loved to use this instead of lugging out my huge assortment of equipment! P.S. Love your blog!
I’ve always wanted to try canning… a free kit would definitely get me started
Wow, how super nice of you to pass this on. I am new to canning and currently put lids at the bottom of my pot to keep the jars from touching the bottom. So far I have only lost one jar to breakage. Something like this would come in handy.
Looking forward to the “butter” posts. I love apple butter.
Great giveaway!
